Official launch of the EU DSO Entity
Today marks the official launch of the EU DSO Entity which is a new association for the European distribution system operators (DSO). The Entity emanates from the European Electricity Regulation (EU) 2019/943 and aims to increase efficiencies in the electricity distribution networks in the Union and to ensure close cooperation with transmission system operators and the ENTSO for Electricity.
The Entity will provide a platform of cooperation between all the electricity DSOs with the overall objective of positioning itself as an expert body tackling essential matters such as developing network codes and guidelines, contributing to the digitalisation of the DSO systems and facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources.
The operational activities of the EU DSO Entity have officially started today following the organisation of its first General Assembly. More than 700 members of the Entity participated in today’s meeting to learn on the forthcoming activities and to decide on the various governance aspects of the organisation. The Constitutive Assembly was closely followed by the first meeting of its Board of Directors as the executive body of the Entity.
Mr. Vincenzo Ranieri (E-Distribuzione SpA), President of the Entity freshly elected by the Board of Directors and pending final endorsement from the second General Assembly on 30 June 2021, stated that:
“An important step has been taken today in setting up an active platform for the electricity DSOs. This comes at the right time taken into account the challenges that need to be addressed by our industry and which will allow the electricity DSOs to contribute actively in achieving the EUs’ climate neutrality goals. I am looking forward to collaborate with my colleagues at the board and make this a success.”
Three Vice-Presidents were also elected, reflecting the diversity of the DSO landscape:
- Stefan Sedin (Jämtkraft Elnät AB)
- Sylvain Gomont (SRD)
- Johan Mörnstam (E.ON N Észak-dunántúli Áramhálózati Zrt.)
The Entity is looking forward to setting up a constructive collaboration with, among other bodies, the European Commission, ACER and ENTSO-E.
